Identifying Barriers to Recovery is a 10-hour continuing education course for Certified Mental Health Professionals (CMHPs) who help people move from goals to action. Most service plans fail not because people lack goals, but because something gets in the way: a missing bus pass, an eviction notice, a medication side effect, a fear of being judged, a controlling partner, or an agency schedule that does not fit a working parent's life. This course teaches CMHPs to recognize practical, social, attitudinal, symptom-related, substance-related, trauma-related, relational, legal, and system-created barriers; to describe them accurately without blaming the person; and to turn them into planned action steps within the CMHP role.
