Self-Care and Professional Longevity (10 Contact Hours)

Overview
Curriculum

Self-Care and Professional Longevity is a 10-hour continuing education course that helps Certified Mental Health Professionals (CMHPs) protect their own well-being so they can provide safe, effective care over a long career. Community mental health work is meaningful and demanding: CMHPs carry heavy caseloads, respond to crises, witness suffering and trauma, and often work alone in the field. This course explains why self-care is an ethical responsibility, describes burnout, compassion fatigue, secondary traumatic stress, and vicarious trauma, and highlights the protective power of compassion satisfaction and vicarious resilience. It offers practical tools for recognizing warning signs, recovering from work stress, practicing self-compassion, using supervision and peer support, understanding organizational responsibilities, and building a personal self-care plan that supports a sustainable career.
