Professional Roles and Boundaries
This 2 hour home study course covers professional roles and boundaries for Washington LMHCs and LMHC associates. Participants learn to distinguish boundary crossings from violations, manage multiple relationships in small and rural communities, separate therapeutic and forensic roles, and handle supervisor and supervisee boundaries. The second module covers Washington's sexual misconduct rules, including WAC 246-809-049, which bars sexual contact with current or former clients and key parties with no time limit; warning signs of boundary drift; gifts, bartering, and fees; self-disclosure and touch; social media, texting, and online searches; termination; and repairing a boundary error. Each module has an information section, a practical section with a step by step tool, Washington case studies, and a summary.
This course is written for the 2 hours in professional roles and boundaries required by WAC 246-809-630 and 246-809-632. It is designed around the continuing education requirements of the Washington State Department of Health but not approved or endorsed by the Department.
