Florida Ethics and Professional Boundaries for Chapter 491 Licensees (3 Hours)

Overview
Curriculum

This 3 hour home study course covers professional ethics and boundary issues for Florida LMHCs, LMFTs, LCSWs, and registered interns. Participants review how the Board and the Department of Health regulate chapter 491 licensees, the CE rules for the March 31, 2027 renewal, and how to respond to a Department of Health complaint.

The course explains confidentiality and privilege under s. 491.0147 and s. 90.503, including the 2019 change that requires notice to law enforcement after a qualifying threat; records rules; child abuse and vulnerable adult reporting; minors' access to crisis services under s. 394.4784 and the Parents' Bill of Rights; the sexual misconduct rules, including the March 2, 2026 amendment to Rule 64B4-10.003 that replaced the old 2-year rule; and Florida telehealth law. Each module has an information section, a practical section with a step by step tool, Florida case studies, and a summary.

This course is written for the 3 hours of professional ethics and boundary issues in Fla. Admin. Code R. 64B4-6.001. It is offered by an NBCC Approved Continuing Education Provider and is not reported to CE Broker; licensees self-report their hours. It does not satisfy the Florida laws and rules, medical errors, or domestic violence requirements. The course is designed around the continuing education requirements of the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling but not approved or endorsed by the Board.
