Legal, Ethical, and Professional Responsibilities for CCAMs (10 Contact Hours)

Overview
Curriculum

Certified Child Advocate Managers hold confidential information, influence court decisions, and supervise volunteers who advocate for Florida's dependent children. This 10-contact-hour course addresses the Legal, Ethical, and Professional Responsibilities domain of the Florida Certification Board's CCAM credential and counts toward the 40-hour annual continuing education requirement.

Participants examine the guardian ad litem's fiduciary role under section 39.822, Florida Statutes, and all eight rule areas of the FCB Code of Ethical and Professional Conduct (July 2025). The course covers confidentiality of guardian ad litem records under section 39.0132, professional boundaries with children, families, and volunteers, conflicts of interest and independence, mandatory reporting, fairness and cultural responsiveness, a structured ethical decision-making process, the FCB complaint, investigation, and discipline process, and credential maintenance and self-care. Each module includes a case study and a practical tool such as the Boundary Decision Guide and the Ethical Decision-Making Worksheet.
