Communication Skills for Child Welfare Supervisors (8 Contact Hours)

Overview
Curriculum

Child welfare supervisors communicate all day long: reviewing case notes and court reports, listening to staff after difficult visits, answering calls from caregivers and partners, briefing managers, and holding hard conversations about performance. This 8-contact-hour course prepares Certified Child Welfare Supervisors and supervisory candidates to communicate clearly, honestly, and respectfully in each of these settings.

Participants learn to write and review accurate, objective documentation and reports, use active listening and appropriate tone, protect confidentiality and exercise discretion in team relationships, keep managers informed of unit successes and barriers, and foster open communication, integrity, and honesty. Each module includes a supervision case study with a practice question and a practical tool, such as the Case Note Quality Checklist, the Unit Status Briefing Template, and the Difficult Conversation Planner.
