Dialectical Behavior Skills Training (10 Contact Hours)

Overview
Curriculum

Dialectical Behavior Skills Training is a 10-hour continuing education course for Certified Mental Health Professionals (CMHPs) who support people learning skills from dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). DBT was developed for people with intense, hard-to-manage emotions, recurrent crises, and self-harm, and its skills are now used widely for emotion dysregulation across many conditions. This course explains the biosocial theory behind DBT, the balance between acceptance and change at its core, validation as a helping skill, and the four skill modules: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. It also covers diary cards, skills generalization, crisis and safety considerations, and the CMHP's role in supporting, not delivering, DBT treatment.
