Navigating Florida's Social Service Systems is a 10-hour continuing education course for Certified Mental Health Professionals (CMHPs) who help people obtain and keep the public benefits and community resources that support recovery. Health coverage, food, income, housing, and legal stability shape mental health as much as any clinical service, and the systems that provide them are complex, change often, and are easy to fall out of. This course explains how Florida's major public assistance systems are organized, including ACCESS Florida, Medicaid and Statewide Medicaid Managed Care, the Medically Needy program, SNAP food assistance and its work requirements, Social Security disability benefits, housing programs, substance use and crisis systems, and the identification and legal documents people need to reach them. It also teaches how to read notices, track deadlines, support appeals, and keep a reliable resource map, all within the CMHP role and without giving legal advice.
