Solution-Focused Brief Interventions (10 Contact Hours)

Overview
Curriculum

Solution-Focused Brief Interventions is a 10-hour continuing education course for Certified Mental Health Professionals (CMHPs) who want practical, strengths-based conversation tools for helping people move toward the lives they want. Solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), developed by Steve de Shazer, Insoo Kim Berg, and colleagues, shifts attention from analyzing problems to building solutions: identifying what the person wants, noticing when things are already a little better, and taking small steps forward. This course teaches the assumptions of the solution-focused approach, engagement and relationship patterns, well-formed goals, the miracle question, exception questions, scaling questions, coping and relationship questions, compliments and feedback, and the use of these tools with co-occurring conditions, crisis, and diverse cultures, within the CMHP role.
