Cultural Competency and Diversity in Behavioral Health Practice is a three-hour, text-based home study course for counselors, marriage and family therapists, social workers, addiction professionals, and psychologists. The course explains core concepts including cultural humility, intersectionality, multicultural orientation, implicit bias, and minority stress, and it reviews the ethical mandates of the ACA, NASW, APA, and NBCC codes and the evidence on disparities in behavioral health care. It then applies these ideas to culturally responsive assessment with the DSM-5-TR Cultural Formulation Interview, diagnostic accuracy, culturally adapted treatment, language access and work with interpreters, and considerations for specific populations. The final module addresses broaching, microaggressions and rupture repair, culturally responsive supervision, the National CLAS Standards, and advocacy. The course is designed around Arizona's three-hour continuing education requirement in cultural considerations in psychotherapy (formerly cultural competency and diversity) but is not approved or endorsed by the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners or any other state board. Upon successful completion of the post-test, hours are reported directly to CE Broker.
