Cultural Competency for Oregon Counselors and Therapists (4 Clock Hours)

This 4 clock hour home study course covers cultural competency for Oregon LPCs, LMFTs, and registered associates. Module 1 covers foundations: Oregon's definition of cultural competency, the Multicultural and Social Justice Counseling Competencies, ADDRESSING, intersectionality, identity development, acculturation, cultural humility, and implicit bias. Module 2 covers the DSM-5-TR Cultural Formulation Interview, cultural concepts of distress, diagnostic disparities, culturally adapted treatment, and Oregon's health care interpreter rules. Module 3 covers broaching, microaggressions and rupture repair, cultural transference, values conflicts and referral ethics, and culturally responsive supervision. Module 4 covers Oregon's communities, including the nine federally recognized tribes, rural and frontier Oregon, and the history of Black Oregonians, along with REALD and SOGI data standards, the National CLAS Standards, and advocacy. Each module has an information section, a practical section with a step by step tool, Oregon case studies, and a summary.

This course is written for the 4 clock hours of cultural competency required by ORS 676.850 and OAR 833-080-0011. It is designed around the continuing education requirements of the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists but not approved or endorsed by the Board.
