Overview
Curriculum

This three hour, text-based home study course covers ethics and law for North Dakota licensed associate professional counselors, licensed professional counselors, and licensed professional clinical counselors. All three hours are ethics content.

Module 1 covers how North Dakota regulates counselors: NDCC chapter 43-47, the Board of Counselor Examiners, the LAPC, LPC, and LPCC credentials, renewal and continuing education, and discipline. Module 2 covers confidentiality, responding to threats of violence in a state without a duty-to-warn statute, child and vulnerable adult abuse reporting, and counseling minors. Module 3 covers applying the ACA Code with an ethical decision-making model, boundaries in rural and oil country practice, telehealth, and the Counseling Compact. Each module includes a practical routine, a tool training, a skills practice, and North Dakota case studies.

This course is designed around the continuing education requirements of the North Dakota Board of Counselor Examiners and is not approved or endorsed by the Board.
