Indiana Ethics for Licensed Mental Health Counselors (2 Hours)

Overview
Curriculum

This 2 hour home study course covers ethics and law for Indiana LMHCs and LMHC associates. Module 1 covers how the Board and the Professional Licensing Agency regulate counselors, the conduct standards in 839 IAC 1-5-5, CE and audit rules, discipline and civil penalties, the complaint process through the Attorney General, the counselor privilege in IC 25-23.6-6-1, Indiana mental health records law, and subpoenas. Module 2 covers the Indiana duty to warn statute (which does not name LMHCs), child abuse reporting by any person, endangered adult reporting, minors, boundaries and sexual misconduct, Indiana telehealth law, and the Counseling Compact, which began issuing privileges for Indiana licensees in June 2026. Each module has an information section, a practical section with a step by step tool, Indiana case studies, and a summary.

This course is written for the ethics hours in 839 IAC 1-6-3 (1 hour per year, 2 per renewal period). It is designed around the continuing education requirements of the Indiana Behavioral Health and Human Services Licensing Board but not approved or endorsed by the Board.
