This advanced 4-hour training provides Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialists (CTTS) with a comprehensive immersion into Motivational Interviewing (MI) strategies specifically tailored for nicotine dependence. Moving beyond basic definitions, this course dissects the nuances of the "Spirit of MI" and the four fundamental processes—Engaging, Focusing, Evoking, and Planning—within the context of tobacco cessation. Participants will master the core microskills (OARS), learn to sophisticatedly identify and evoke "change talk" (DARN-CAT), and effectively navigate client ambivalence and resistance. The curriculum emphasizes moving clients from the precontemplation of quitting to the concrete action of a quit attempt, utilizing evidence-based techniques to support autonomy and strengthen commitment to a tobacco-free life. This course counts as 4 hours towards the 12 hours needed under electives for the CTTS certification by the Florida Certification Board.
