This three hour, text-based home study course covers ethics and law for Alaska licensed professional counselors and associate counselors. All three hours are ethics content.
Module 1 covers how Alaska regulates counselors: AS 08.29, 12 AAC 62, the new associate counselor license, renewal and continuing education, and discipline. Module 2 covers confidentiality, Alaska's permissive approach to disclosing threats, child and vulnerable adult abuse reporting, and counseling minors. Module 3 covers applying the AMHCA Code of Ethics, which Alaska adopts by rule, with an ethical decision-making model, boundaries in villages and small communities, telehealth, and practice across state lines. Each module includes a practical routine, a tool training, a skills practice, and Alaska case studies.
