Addiction Counseling Competencies (TAP 21) (8 CE Hours) -Texas Social Work

Overview
Curriculum

This 8-hour course provides a thorough review of the essential competencies for effective addiction treatment, aligned with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Technical Assistance Publication (TAP) 21. Designed for Texas social workers (LBSW, LMSW, and LCSW) who serve clients with substance use disorders, this training bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and clinical application. Participants will explore the transdisciplinary foundations of addiction, evidence-based screening and assessment protocols, and treatment planning using ASAM criteria. The curriculum also addresses co-occurring disorders, medication for addiction treatment, collaboration with LCDCs, and the ethical delivery of telehealth services under the Texas social work rules administered by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (BHEC).

This course is designed around the continuing education requirements of the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners but is not approved or endorsed by the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners or the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council. Dr. Paulson Professional Counseling LLC is an NBCC Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7987.

This course is also part of The Texas Social Work Complete 30-Hour Renewal Bundle, all 30 CE hours for $65. See the Texas CE requirements guide for the full renewal rules.
