Cultural Diversity and Competency in Texas Practice (3 CE Hours) -Texas Social Work

Overview
Curriculum

This 3-hour continuing education course is built around the Texas social work rule, effective July 20, 2025, that social workers complete 3 hours designed to ensure competency when providing services to a distinct population (22 TAC §781.501). The Council does not pre-approve courses, so each licensee decides which training fits the population they choose. Grounded in the NASW Code of Ethics and the NASW Standards and Indicators for Cultural Competence in Social Work Practice, and drawing on the Multicultural and Social Justice Counseling Competencies (MSJCC) framework, the course explores intersectionality, implicit bias, and power dynamics within the helping relationship. Participants will examine the 2025 amendments to the continuing education rules, analyze the impact of historical and systemic oppression on mental health, and develop actionable skills for culturally responsive care and social justice advocacy with client groups prevalent in Texas.

This course is designed around the continuing education requirements of the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners but is not approved or endorsed by the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners or the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council. Dr. Paulson Professional Counseling LLC is an NBCC Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7987.

This course is also part of The Texas Social Work Complete 30-Hour Renewal Bundle, all 30 CE hours for $65. See the Texas CE requirements guide for the full renewal rules.
