Cultural Humility and Social Foundations in Counseling (3 CE Hours)

Overview
Curriculum

This comprehensive 3-hour Continuing Education course fulfills the "Social and Cultural Foundations" program area requirement for Ohio Counselors, Social Workers, and Marriage and Family Therapists. The curriculum moves beyond the traditional framework of cultural competence to explore the dynamic and lifelong process of cultural humility. Participants will examine the Multicultural and Social Justice Counseling Competencies (MSJCC) to analyze the intersection of privilege, oppression, and power within the therapeutic relationship. The course provides a rigorous review of cultural identity development models and specific counseling considerations for diverse populations, including African American, Asian American, Latinx, Arab American, and Native American clients. Special emphasis is placed on the ethical mandates of the Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) and the ACA Code of Ethics regarding nondiscrimination, advocacy, and the integration of social justice into clinical practice.
