This comprehensive 6-hour training addresses the complex clinical reality of Co-Occurring Disorders (COD), where substance use and mental health disorders exist simultaneously. Designed for Texas social workers (LBSW, LMSW, and LCSW), this course moves beyond the "siloed" treatment approach to an Integrated Treatment model. Participants will explore the etiology of comorbidity, differential diagnosis using DSM-5-TR criteria, and treatment plans that address both conditions concurrently. The curriculum emphasizes evidence-based interventions such as Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), applies the Texas social work rules on scope of practice, records, technology, and confidentiality, explains how social workers collaborate with LCDCs under HHSC rules, and covers the federal privacy requirements of HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
This course is designed around the continuing education requirements of the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners but is not approved or endorsed by the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners or the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council. Dr. Paulson Professional Counseling LLC is an NBCC Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7987.
This course is also part of The Texas Social Work Complete 30-Hour Renewal Bundle, all 30 CE hours for $65. See the Texas CE requirements guide for the full renewal rules.
