This targeted 2-hour course provides a clinical overview of Gambling Disorder, the first "process addiction" to be formally classified alongside substance use disorders in the DSM-5. Designed for Texas social workers (LBSW, LMSW, and LCSW), this training bridges the gap between the neurobiology of addiction and practical clinical strategies. Participants will explore the diagnostic criteria in the DSM-5-TR, the use of screening instruments like the SOGS, BBGS, and PGSI, and evidence-based treatments including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). The curriculum also covers the Texas social work rules on scope of practice for each license level, testing, electronic practice, financial boundaries with clients, and confidentiality, along with the integration of financial recovery into treatment planning.
This course is designed around the continuing education requirements of the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners but is not approved or endorsed by the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners or the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council. Dr. Paulson Professional Counseling LLC is an NBCC Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7987.
This course is also part of The Texas Social Work Complete 30-Hour Renewal Bundle, all 30 CE hours for $65. See the Texas CE requirements guide for the full renewal rules.
