Illinois Ethics for Professional Counselors (3 CE Hours)

Overview
Curriculum

This 3 CE hour home study course covers the ethical and legal standards that Illinois Licensed Professional Counselors and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors apply every day. Participants review how IDFPR and the Professional Counselor Licensing and Disciplinary Board license and discipline counselors under the Professional Counselor and Clinical Professional Counselor Licensing and Practice Act (225 ILCS 107) and 68 Ill. Adm. Code 1375, the CE rules for the March 31, 2027 renewal, and how to respond to an IDFPR complaint.

The course explains confidentiality and records under the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act (740 ILCS 110), including why a subpoena alone is not enough; minors' consent under 405 ILCS 5/3-550; disclosure to protect and the FOID clear and present danger reporting rules; child and adult abuse reporting; boundaries and sexual misconduct; and the Illinois Telehealth Act. Each module has an information section, a practical section with a step by step tool, Illinois case studies, and a summary.

This course is written for the 3 hours of ethics in the 30 hour Illinois renewal requirement. It does not satisfy the separate Illinois sexual harassment prevention, implicit bias, cultural competency, dementia, or mandated reporter trainings. The course is designed around the continuing education requirements of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation but not approved or endorsed by the Department.

Save with a bundle. This course is included in my Illinois 30-Hour Full Renewal Bundle (30 CE hours, $49) and Illinois Required Renewal Bundle (6 CE hours, $24). See my Illinois CE requirements guide for everything your renewal includes.
