Telehealth in Texas: Legal and Ethical Standards (4 CE Hours) -Texas Social Work

Overview
Curriculum

This 4-hour course gives Texas social workers (LBSW, LMSW, and LCSW) a rigorous examination of the regulatory and ethical landscape of telehealth. Texas applies every social work rule to technology-based services as if they were face to face (22 TAC §781.323), so informed consent, records, confidentiality, advertising, scope of practice, and supervision all follow the clinician onto the screen. The course covers the Council's rule that practice occurs where the client is located, supervision by electronic means under the 2026 rules, HIPAA platform and security requirements, Texas privacy and breach law, remote emergency planning, the Texas approach to duty to warn, and the status of the Social Work Licensure Compact, which Texas has not joined. Comparisons with the LMFT, LPC, and LCDC telehealth rules help social workers on interdisciplinary teams.

This course is designed around the continuing education requirements of the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners but is not approved or endorsed by the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners or the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council. Dr. Paulson Professional Counseling LLC is an NBCC Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7987.

This course is also part of The Texas Social Work Complete 30-Hour Renewal Bundle, all 30 CE hours for $65. See the Texas CE requirements guide for the full renewal rules.
