Advocating for Client Rights and Resources is a 10-hour continuing education course for Certified Mental Health Professionals (CMHPs) who help people receiving behavioral health services protect their rights and gain fair access to resources. People living with mental health and substance use conditions have legal rights in treatment, in the community, in housing, and in public programs, yet many do not know these rights, and systems do not always honor them. This course explains advocacy within the CMHP role, the rights of people receiving mental health and substance use services in Florida, disability rights and community integration, stigma and dignity, self-advocacy coaching, direct advocacy, grievances and appeals, protection and advocacy systems, safeguarding against abuse and exploitation, and systems advocacy, while keeping the person's own voice at the center and routing legal questions to qualified advocates.
