Introduction to Evidence-Based Practices (10 Contact Hours)

Overview
Curriculum

Introduction to Evidence-Based Practices is a 10-hour continuing education course for Certified Mental Health Professionals (CMHPs) who work in programs that use, or are expected to use, evidence-based practices. The phrase "evidence-based" appears in funding contracts, job descriptions, accreditation standards, and treatment plans, yet it is often misunderstood as a list of approved therapies. This course explains what evidence-based practice actually means, how research evidence is produced and judged, why the helping relationship matters across all approaches, and how several well-established evidence-based program models work, including Assertive Community Treatment, Individual Placement and Support, Permanent Supportive Housing, Illness Management and Recovery, and integrated treatment for co-occurring disorders. It also covers fidelity, implementation, cultural adaptation, and the CMHP's role in delivering evidence-based services within scope.
