Telehealth for Florida Mental Health Professionals: Law, Ethics, and Practice (3 Hours)

Overview
Curriculum

This course gives Florida licensed clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, mental health counselors, and registered interns a practical, current guide to delivering psychotherapy by telehealth. It covers Florida's telehealth statute and Board rules, out-of-state provider registration, interstate practice and the Counseling Compact, payment basics, the technology standards of the ACA, AAMFT, and social work codes, Florida confidentiality law, and the HIPAA Security and Breach Notification Rules as they apply to video, audio, messaging, and artificial intelligence tools.

The final module turns to clinical risk management: assessing suitability, verifying identity and location, planning for emergencies when the client is not in the room, applying the Baker Act and 988, working with minors, families, and groups by video, and sustaining boundaries and therapeutic presence online. Each module includes a step-by-step routine, a ready-to-use tool, and Florida case studies with explanations. Counselors in other states will also find the ethics, HIPAA, and clinical content useful.

This course is designed around the continuing education requirements of the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling but not approved or endorsed by the Board.
