Pennsylvania Professional Ethics for Counselors, MFTs, and Social Workers (3 Clock Hours)

Overview
Curriculum

This 3 clock hour home study course covers the ethical and legal standards that Pennsylvania licensed professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, and social workers apply every day. Participants review how the State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors licenses and disciplines clinicians, the Pennsylvania codes of ethical practice in 49 Pa. Code Chapters 47, 48, and 49, and the continuing education rules for the February 28, 2027 renewal.

The course explains confidentiality and records under the Mental Health Procedures Act, HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and Act 65 of 2020 for minors 14 through 17, the duty to warn under Emerich v. Philadelphia Center for Human Development, mandated reporting of child and adult abuse, boundaries and sexual misconduct rules, telehealth across state lines, the Counseling Compact, and the Board complaint process. Each module has an information section, a practical section with a step by step tool, two Pennsylvania case studies, and a summary.

This course meets the 3 clock hour ethics requirement as home study. It does not satisfy the 1 clock hour on suicide (Act 74 of 2016) or the 2 clock hours of child abuse recognition and reporting (Act 31), which come only from a provider approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services or the Department of State. The course is designed around the Board's continuing education requirements. It is not approved or endorsed by the Board.

Dr. Paulson Professional Counseling LLC has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7987. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Dr. Paulson Professional Counseling LLC is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
