Ethics and Law for Wyoming Professional Counselors (3 Hours)

Overview
Curriculum

This three hour, text-based home study course covers ethics and law for Wyoming licensed professional counselors and provisional professional counselors. All three hours are ethics content.

Module 1 covers how Wyoming regulates counselors: the practice act (W.S. 33-38-101 et seq.), the Mental Health Professions Licensing Board, the LPC and provisional licenses, renewal and continuing education, the Board's Chapter 15 ethics rule and the 2014 ACA Code, and complaints and discipline. Module 2 covers confidentiality and privilege, Wyoming's permissive approach to disclosing threats under W.S. 33-38-113, child and vulnerable adult abuse reporting, and counseling minors. Module 3 covers applying the ACA Code with an ethical decision-making model, boundaries in small-town and frontier practice, social media, telehealth, and the Counseling Compact. Each module includes a practical routine, a tool training, a skills practice, and Wyoming case studies.

This course is designed around the continuing education requirements of the Wyoming Mental Health Professions Licensing Board and is not approved or endorsed by the Board.
