Gambling Addiction Treatment: A Brief Review
This targeted 2-hour course provides a clinical overview of Gambling Disorder, the first "process addiction" to be formally classified alongside substance use disorders in the DSM-5. Designed for Texas mental health professionals, this training bridges the gap between the neurobiology of addiction and practical counseling strategies. Participants will explore the evolution of diagnostic criteria found in the DSM-5-TR, master the use of specific screening instruments like the SOGS and NODS, and delve into evidence-based treatments including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). The curriculum also addresses the unique ethical considerations for Texas licensees, including scope of practice boundaries for LCDCs and the integration of financial recovery into treatment planning.
